Laser Skin Resurfacing

Another alternative to the treatment of common facial skin problems brought by aging is laser skin resurfacing. With this procedure, a laser is utilized to correct damaged and wrinkled skin especially around the face and neck. Similar with the other facial skin enhancements, it works on the upper layers of skin to correct these skin problems.

Laser skin resurfacing is best for people who have fine lines and wrinkles in the facial area and acne scars. Unfortunately, this procedure is not for people who have active acne as it may exacerbate the condition. It is not for the treatment of stretch marks either.

Procedure
Laser skin resurfacing has two types of lasers used: carbon dioxide (CO2) and erbium. Treatments are usually done on an outpatient basis in conjunction with local anaesthesia and other sedatives.

If you are decided to receive laser skin resurfacing, this video will give you an idea on how the procedure is actually done.

Cost
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, laser skin resurfacing costs around $2,378 on the average, which already include physician’s fees. Unfortunately, this price covers one session but with laser skin surfacing you would probably need re-visits and multiple sessions. The best way to know the costs is from actual consultation wherein a suitable treatment plan would be determined for your skin.

Pain Factor
Since pulsed light will be used to burn off the specific areas of treatment to smoothen the skin, a hot sensation would be felt. Pain from the redness and swelling after laser skin resurfacing is expected and generally well tolerated.

Recovery Time
After treatment, redness and swelling may simultaneously appear and skin looks crusted in 10 or more days. The skin will be on its healing phase progressively until the crusts disappear. However, the redness would persist for several weeks.

Risks
Risks are few with this type of procedure but occasionally, discoloration, burning and subsequent scarring may occur. Since aging is a progressive condition, wrinkles and fine lines may reappear depending on the skin care practiced after receiving laser skin surface. Make sure you consult with a qualified doctor to assess if you are a good candidate for this type of treatment.
