Waxing is another hair removal alternative. It is an epilating technique that may provide semi-permanent results. With regular use, hair growth becomes finer in texture compared to shaving that gets coarser results. Almost any area can be treated with wax: eyebrows, legs, face, bikini area, arms, back, abdomen and feet. Once wax is applied on skin, a quick ripping action of the wax from the skin will achieve the removal of hair.
There are specialized waxing techniques too. Bikini wax is the term of removing hair on the groin area leaving a small patch of hair in the genital area. Meanwhile, a Brazilian wax is the total removal of pubic hair from front to back.
Procedure
There are two types of wax available for this type of treatment. Hot wax is a soft wax that is melted and applied on the skin. This can cause burns on the skin apart from skin irritation from the quick removal of wax. When cool, a cloth or paper strip may be applied over the hardened wax to facilitate pulling easily. It effectively pulls out hair and dead skin cells in one quick movement.
Cold wax mimics the action of the hot wax minus the heating and cooling stage. Hence, accidental burns are eliminated from its use. Use of wax is undeniably messy and preparation of the wax is very tedious. On the other hand, results of the hair removal are very favourable.
If you are wondering how a bikini wax is done, this video will how it is actually done.
Cost
Hot or cold wax strips and preparations are easily obtainable at any beauty store or drugstore. It is very affordable. Bikini and Brazilian waxes can be done at home but are preferably done by trained personnel in beauty salons or cosmetic clinics. Visits to these places may get a bit pricey as compared to at home DIY waxing sessions.
Pain Factor
First-time waxing would leave the user in intense pain after the quick pulling out of hair. But with succeeding waxing sessions, pain becomes bearable. Redness and irritation may result from the heat or from the pulling action. Waxing in the pubic areas is intensely painful due to the delicate areas.
Risks
There are no known risks for waxing except for the risk of burns when using hot wax especially when applied on the delicate areas. Ingrown hair, redness and irritation are minimal side effects to the waxing treatment.
